Inspiring Hurricane Relief Helpers

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” -Fred Rogers

Look for the helpers and you will find inspiring stories! Here are a few of our favorite tales of heroic American Red Cross helpers providing relief to those affected by Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey.

During Hurricane Irma, a 19 year old named Andrew Enos stepped up and managed an emergency shelter for 950 evacuees. The shelter was at North Miami High School and run through the American Red Cross. Working on 1.5 – 2 hours sleep to lead shelter efforts proved stressful for Enos, but very rewarding.

In addition to providing relief for Hurricane Irma, Enos volunteered at shelters in Texas to provide aid from Hurricane Harvey. Enos’ actions are heroic and inspire others to volunteer and give back to their communities!

The American Red Cross responds to an emergency every 8 minutes, bringing help and hope to those affected by disasters. 95% of Red Cross disaster relief workers are volunteers. Their efforts are saving lives across the United States and Puerto Rico providing hurricane relief from Harvey, Irma and Maria.
